2014 FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

QUIZ: WEEK #10

RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down, distance and succeeding spot (example: A 1/10 A40). If relevant, also include other information such as whether the 25 or 40-second play clock will be used, whether the game clock starts on the ready or snap, if ZAP 10 is a factor or if there will be an extension of the period.

1. PLAY: 3rd/8 A12. The score is A28-B27. Team B has no timeouts remaining. A12 is downed for no gain. During the down, B96’s helmet comes off without a helmet foul. The game clock shows 0:46 in the fourth quarter when the down ends.

2. PLAY: 3rd/12 B42. A33 is running on B's 36 when B94 pulls A33 to the ground with a horse collar tackle. A33 fumbles before he is declared down. A77 recovers on B's 28 while grounded. Clock?

3. PLAY: 2nd/14 B44. A34 runs to B's 32 and fumbles. The ball rolls out of bounds on B's 25. The game clock shows 1:59 in the second quarter. Game clock? Play clock?

4. PLAY: 3rd/8 A32. A33 muffs the handoff from A12 and has to take several steps before recovering A12's fumble. A33 advances to B's 42 where he is downed. Nose guard, B96, commits a personal foul against the snapper upon his initial charge after the snap.

5. PLAY: 3rd/5 B35. B44 lines up directly in front of end A88. At the snap, A88 slants to the inside of B44. Just after A12's catchable legal forward pass is airborne, B44 blocks A88 below the waist on B's 33. The untouched pass lands incomplete beyond the neutral zone.

6. PLAY: Try B3. B44 intercepts A14's legal forward pass and advances across A's goal line. During B44's advance, A64 commits a blocking below the waist foul and A14 throws his helmet to the ground when he sees B44 advancing.

7. PLAY: 3rd/5 A40. A12 drops back to pass. Under a heavy rush, A12 is off balance facing A's goal line while being spun around by a defender. From A's 32, A12 throws the ball toward the neutral zone (a) over his shoulder; or (b) underhanded. The ball lands within three yards of back A83 who is pass protection blocking in front of A12 and is not aware that a pass has been thrown.
