2014 FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

QUIZ: WEEK #1

RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down, distance and succeeding spot (example: A 1/10 A40). If relevant, also include other information such as whether the 25 or 40-second play clock will be used, whether the game clock starts on the ready or snap, if ZAP 10 is a factor or if there will be an extension of the period.

1. PLAY: 4th/10 A40. A6's punt bounces on B's 2 and is over B's end zone (never touched ground) when A88 bats the ball back into the field of play. B44 recovers the ball and fumbles on B's 14. A55 recovers and advances across B's goal line. During B44's run, B66 blocks below the waist on B's 8.

2. PLAY: 4th/20 A10. The score is A27-B18. B44 catches the punt at the 50 and is downed on A's 24. Before the ball is kicked, A77 holds B96 in A's end zone. The game clock shows 0:59 in the fourth quarter.

3. PLAY: 2nd/10 A40. Team A sends in two substitutes and three players leave the huddle for the sideline. A88 performs the "hideout" caper. B44 intercepts A18's legal forward pass and crosses Team A's goal line.

4. PLAY: 4th/1 B4. Ball carrier A33 is hit at the B5 and fumbles. The ball is rolling in B's end zone where B44 bats the ball across the end line.

5. PLAY: 4th/5 A45. Team A lines up with potential kicker A5 eight yards deep and no player in position to receive a hand-to-hand snap. The linemen are numbered from left to right A88 A76 A64 A93 A63 A75 A87. Just prior to the snap, A5 legally goes in motion and is behind the tight end when the ball is snapped. One of the three blocking backs receives the snap and advances to B's 48 where he is downed.

6. PLAY: 2nd/12 B22. The score is A28-B28 in the fourth quarter. Neither team has timeouts remaining. B44 intercepts A18's legal forward pass and is on A's 30 when his attempted backward pass is muffed by B96 on A's 29 and falls incomplete. The game clock shows 0:25.

7. PLAY: 2nd/16 B36. The score is A27-B28. Neither team has timeouts remaining. A16 has just been sacked on the previous down and is hustling to put the ball in play. The ball is snapped before Team A has been set for a second after the ball is ready for play . When the ball is snapped, replaced player B97 is still several steps from his team box. The game clock reads 0:26 in the fourth quarter.
