2013 FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

QUIZ: WEEK #9

RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down, distance and succeeding spot (example: A 1/10 A40). If relevant, also include other information such as whether the 25 or 40-second play clock will be used, whether the game clock starts on the ready or snap, if ZAP 10 is a factor or if there will be an extension of the period.

1. PLAY: 3rd/13 A37. B96 grabs the side of ball carrier A33’s collar on A’s 44 and pulls him toward the ground. A33 breaks the hold by B96, fumbles on A’s 46 and A66 recovers the ball while grounded on A’s 48.

2. PLAY: Fourth and 9 on B's 29. Team A is lined up to attempt a field goal. The snap bounces to holder A3 who has to rise up to grab the ball and immediately returns to a kneeling position. A3, from his kneeling position, tosses a shovel pass to A84 at B's 32. A84 is downed on B's 16. The kicker was in kicking position when the ball was snapped.

3. PLAY: First and 10 on A's 35. Play resumes after a team timeout. Team A rushes quickly to the line of scrimmage. Team B makes no substitutions. Just after the Umpire backs off the ball and just prior to the Referee giving the ready for play signal, the snapper snaps the ball.

4. PLAY: Fourth and 8 on B's 48. Team A is in a scrimmage kick formation. A5 catches the snap, fakes a punt, runs a sweep and is downed on A's 47. B56 blocks end A88 below the waist on B's 45 as A88 comes fast off the line at the snap. Clock?

5. PLAY: Fourth and 16 on A's 4. The score is A28-B28. Time expires in the fourth quarter as A6's punt rolls out of bounds on A's 39. A77 is flagged for holding in A's end zone during the kick.

6. PLAY: Third and 5 on B's 45. The score is A21-B28. The game clock shows 0:29 in the fourth quarter. On the previous play (3rd/10 50), B44 intercepted A16's legal forward pass and ran out of bounds on A's 48. However, B96 was offside. Immediately following the next ready for play, the referee notices that QB A16 appears groggy and stops play. The game clock now shows 0:26. Team A has one timeout remaining.

7. PLAY: 2nd/20 B40. The score is A27-B28. Neither team has timeouts remaining. A88 catches A16’s legal forward pass and advances to B’s 22 where he is hit and fumbles before going out of bounds. B44 immediately recovers on B’s 19 while grounded. A88 is injured on the play. The game clock shows 0:06 in the fourth quarter. Replay determines that A88 was down before the ball came out.
