2012 FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

QUIZ: WEEK #8

RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down, distance and succeeding spot (example: A 1/10 A40). If relevant, also include other information such as whether the 25 or 40-second play clock will be used, whether the game clock starts on the ready or snap, if ZAP 10 is a factor or if there will be an extension of the period.

1. PLAY: A 4/10 B30. The score is A27-B28. Team A has all of their timeouts remaining. A88 advances to B's 17 where his attempted backward pass goes forward and is incomplete. The game clock shows 48 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

2. PLAY: 3rd/4 B24. The score is A21-B27. The game clock shows 0:24 in the fourth quarter and will start on the snap. Team A does not substitute. B44 replaces B22 who starts off the field within three seconds and is at the numbers when the ball is snapped. A16 takes the snap and throws an apparent touchdown pass to A88. The players don't hear SJ's whistle at the snap. The SJ reports a dead ball illegal substitution foul to the referee.

3. PLAY: 3rd/18 A2. The game clock shows 0:30 in the fourth quarter and the score is A28-B23. QB A18 throws a forward pass that is deflected back to him while in A's end zone. He then throws a pass from A's end zone to A82 at A's 12 that falls incomplete.

4. PLAY: 4th/7 A43. B44 is positioned to catch A6's punt on B's 17. B55 blocks A84 who stumbles into A86. A86 loses his balance and contacts B44 when the punt arrives causing B44 to muff the punt. A88 recovers the ball on B's 25.

5. PLAY: 2nd/8 B38. B97 lines up in front of A66 with Snapper A55 and A77 on each side of A66. B97 enters the neutral zone without making contact. A55 reacts, starts the snap, pauses and then completes the backward pass to A14. Whistles blow and the game clock stops.

6. PLAY: 4th/8 A12. A7 is in A's end zone when he muffs the snap. A7 picks up the ball, attempts to punt while still in A's end zone, but whiffs when he is hit by three defenders. The ball rolls to A's 2 where it is recovered by A68 who advances to A's 22 where he is downed.

7. PLAY (REPLAY): 4th/4 B34. QB A16 hands off to A86. On a double reverse, A86 hands off to A84 on B's 40. A84 runs out of bounds on B's 26. The Umpire flags B65 for a live ball personal foul on B's 32 but has no clue when the foul occurred. The officials conclude, after a sneak peek at the video board, that the foul occurred during A86's run. The game clock shows 8:49.
