2012 FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

QUIZ: WEEK #1


RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down, distance and succeeding spot (example: A 1/10 A40). If relevant, also include other information such as whether the 25 or 40-second play clock will be used, whether the game clock starts on the ready or snap, if ZAP 10 is a factor or if there will be an extension of the period.

1. PLAY: 3rd/15 B45. The score is A28-B24. B44 intercepts A19's legal forward pass. As B44 is about to be tackled on B's 30, he throws the ball forward and is flagged for an illegal forward pass. The pass falls to the ground incomplete. When the ball becomes dead, the game clock reads 0:13 in the fourth quarter.


2. PLAY: 2nd/10 B20. The score is A24-B28. A12 advances to B's 17 and completes a forward pass to A88 who advances for a touchdown. When A88 crosses B's goal line, the game clock reads 0:15 in the fourth quarter.


3. PLAY: F/K A35. B44's leg is touching the pylon when he picks up the ball which is on B's 1/2 yard line. B44 advances to B's 22 where A76 pulls him down by the face mask.


4. PLAY: 4th/1 B31. Team A lines up with the snapper and tight end on the right hash mark with the other five linemen lined up tight near the left hash mark. A16 runs a QB sneak to B's 29 where he is downed. Snapper A55 and tight end A88 fire out and both block noseguard B92 below the waist. ... click here for diagram


5. PLAY: 3rd/10 A40. The score is A21-B27. B96's helmet comes completely off when he is legally blocked when rushing the passer. B96 immediately puts his helmet back on. A16 throws a screen pass to A83 who motors down the sideline. After A83's catch, B96 takes off and tackles A83 on B's 2. Time expires in the fourth quarter during the down.


6. PLAY: 4th/10 A20. The score is A28-B25. Potential kicker, A8, is back to punt. The play clock runs out. The game clock shows 0:48.


7. PLAY (REPLAY): 2nd/12 A8. A17 takes the snap and throws a pass to a back lined up about five yards from the sideline. The ball hits the ground, takes a backward bounce and rolls out of bounds in A's end zone close to the goal line pylon. The H signals incomplete forward pass. Reviewable?
