2011 FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

QUIZ: WEEK #8


RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down, distance and succeeding spot (example: A 1/10 A40). If relevant, also include other information such as whether the 25 or 40-second play clock will be used, whether the game clock starts on the ready or snap or if there will be an extension of the period.

1. PLAY: Fourth and goal on B's 5. A3's field goal attempt hits snapper A55 in the helmet before passing above the crossbar between the uprights. Immediately after the snap, B44, while standing in B's end zone, hurls an expletive deleted at the SJ.


2. PLAY: Fourth and 3 on B's 23. Wide receiver A82 steps out of bounds on B's 21 and immediately returns inbounds. QB A18 throws a forward pass toward A82. On B's 18, A82 jumps high to attempt a catch, but B24 pushes A82. A82 does not touch the ball. A88 is able to make a diving catch on B's 12. Play clock?


3. PLAY: Try on B's 3. B44 intercepts A17's legal forward pass, advances to B's 16 and fumbles. A66 recovers and advances across Team B's goal line. Team A had an illegal formation. B96 commits a personal foul during B66's run.


4. PLAY: Fourth and 4 on B's 24. B44 recovers A82's fumble and runs out of bounds on B's 40. Team B was offside. The game clock shows 1:59 or less in either half. The penalty is accepted. Clock?


5. PLAY: Second and 1 on B’s 31. A14 leaves the tackle box and his forward pass from B’s 37 crosses the sideline on B’s 33 and lands out of bounds on B’s 24 extended. No eligible receiver had a reasonable opportunity to catch the pass. A55 was downfield when the pass was thrown.


6. PLAY: Fourth and 8 on A's 32. A7 punts. The ball is bouncing on B's 35 when B44 and A88 touch the kick. A88 recovers the kick on B's 27. The SJ reports that A88 touched the kick first and the BJ reports that B44 touched the kick first. Or, the SJ and BJ report that A88 and B44 simultaneously touched the kick.


7. PLAY: Fourth and 16 on A's 20. A4 punts. A86 commits an interference with opportunity foul on the 50. After the ball hits the ground, there is an inadvertent whistle.
