2011 FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

QUIZ: WEEK #7


RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down, distance and succeeding spot (example: A 1/10 A40). If relevant, also include other information such as whether the 25 or 40-second play clock will be used, whether the game clock starts on the ready or snap or if there will be an extension of the period.

1. PLAY: Fourth and 10 on A's 30. A6's punt sails toward the Team A sideline. No Team B player is in position to make the catch. A Team A substitute, A99, steps onto the field and catches the kick in the field of play on B's 42. A99 hands the ball to the official who throws a flag. (COMMENT: This play verified according to an official in the game).


2. PLAY: Fourth and 5 on A's 45. Team A lines up in a scrimmage kick formation with potential kicker A5 eight yards deep. The linemen are numbered from left to right A88 A76 A64 A93 A63 A75 A87. Just prior to the snap, A5 legally goes in motion and is behind the tight end when the ball is snapped. One of the three blocking backs receives the snap and advances to B's 48 where he is downed.


3. PLAY: Second and 12 on B's 22. The score is A28-B28 in the fourth quarter. Neither team has timeouts remaining. B44 intercepts A18's legal forward pass and is on A's 30 when his attempted backward pass is muffed by B96 on A's 29 and falls incomplete. The game clock shows 0:25.


4. PLAY: Second and 16 on B’s 36. The score is A27-B28. Neither team has timeouts remaining. A16 has just been sacked on the previous down and is hustling to put the ball in play. The ball is snapped before Team A has been set for a second after the ball is ready for play . When the ball is snapped, replaced player B97 is still a couple of steps from his team box. The game clock reads 0:26 in the fourth quarter.


5. PLAY: Second and goal on B's 8. B99 intercepts A16's legal forward pass on B's 3 and his momentum carries him into B's end zone. While in B's end zone, B99 fumbles the ball. The ball bounces out of the end zone to B's 2 where A66 bats the loose ball back into B's end zone where it bounces on the sideline.


6. PLAY: Free kick on A's 30. The ball bounces over the head of B's front line players near A's 40. A88 muffs the ball on A's 48 and the ball rolls out of bounds on the 50. During the kick, B94 blocks kicker A8 above the waist on A's 34.


7. PLAY: Fourth and 8 on A's 42. Team A's offensive line is bowed with A78 in a 3-point stance but his head is not breaking the waistline of the snapper. Just prior to the snap, B96, directly across from A78, enters the neutral zone. A78 immediately lifts a hand from the ground and a whistle sounds.
