QUIZ: WEEK #5

RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down, distance and succeeding spot (example: A 1/10 A40). If relevant, also include other information such as whether the 25 or 40-second play clock will be used, whether the game clock starts on the ready or snap or if there will be an extension of the period.

1. PLAY: Second and 8 on A's 32. The ball is in the middle of the field. Team A runs a tight double wing offense with left wingback A24 and right wingback A25 outside the tackle box. QB A19 runs the option, cuts upfield, runs toward the right sideline and then advances to A's 42 where he is downed. Not knowing A25's eligibility and in doubt about the legality of the block, the H flags A25 for an illegal block below the waist toward the right sideline on A's 44.


2. PLAY: Third and 10 on A's 20. A39 takes a pitchout and busts into the secondary. A39 high steps the last eight yards into B's end zone. B98 was offside.


3. PLAY: Fourth and goal on B's 6. The score is A28-B28. B44 intercepts A16's legal forward pass and motors down the opponent's sideline. When B44 reaches A's 40 and with no one likely to catch him, the Team B bench personnel run onto the field but do not interfere with the play. Time expires in the fourth quarter during the down.


4. PLAY: Fourth and 2 on A's 40. B18 holds his extended arm straight up for a fair catch signal without waving his arm on B's 22. He muffs the ball on B's 20 and B44 recovers on B's 16 and advances to the 50 where he is downed. A66 was in the neutral zone at the snap.


5. PLAY: Third and 4 on B's 24. The score is A27-B28. A88 catches A14's legal forward pass and advances to B's 4 where he fumbles. The ball rolls out of bounds through Team B's end zone. B96 roughed the passer. Time expires in the fourth quarter during the down.


6. PLAY: Fourth and 10 on A's 20. B44 recovers the punt on B's 44 and advances to A's 2 where he fumbles. The ball rolls out of bounds through Team A's end zone. A88 illegally touched the ball on A's 42. B66 held gunner A84 on A's 28 just prior to the ball being kicked.


7. PLAY: Third and 6 on B's 20. Neither team has timeouts remaining. A24 is close to a first down near B's 14. Immediately after the ball is dead, A76 blocks late and is flagged. The foul occurs before a timeout signal for a measurement. The game clock shows 0:09 in the first half. After the measurement, the ball is spotted one inch beyond the line to gain.
