2011 FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

QUIZ: WEEK #4


RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down, distance and succeeding spot (example: A 1/10 A40). If relevant, also include other information such as whether the 25 or 40-second play clock will be used, whether the game clock will start on the ready or snap or if there will be an extension of the period.

1. PLAY: Second and 5 on B's 25. The score is A27-B28. Neither team has timeouts remaining. The game clock is running. Team A commits a false start due to an illegal shift of the second kind. When the officials flag this foul and stop the game clock, there are 7 seconds left in the fourth quarter.


2. PLAY: Fourth and 3 on A's 27. The score is A28-B27. Both teams are out of timeouts. The game clock is running. A66 false starts just before the play clock runs out. The game clock shows 0:33 in the fourth quarter.


3. PLAY: Third and 10 on B's 20. Neither team has timeouts remaining. A33 is hit on B's 12 and his helmet comes off. A76 commits a dead ball personal foul. There are 9 seconds on the clock in the first half.


4. PLAY: Fourth and 15 on A's 15. A8's punt is blocked by B96. The ball does not cross the neutral zone. A84 recovers on A's 7 and advances to A's 32 where he fumbles. A87 recovers on A's 29 while grounded. Team A commits an illegal formation foul. Game clock?


5. PLAY: Third and goal on B's 12. A33 takes a handoff, advances and fumbles on B's 4. A82 receives the ball with one foot touching B's goal line pylon. The ball is completely over the field of play on B's 1 when touched by A82. Game clock.


6. PLAY: Fourth and 2 on A's 38. While A4's punt is rolling, A88 "flashes a bird" to B33 who is near him. The kick is illegally touched by A84 on B's 37. B66 recovers while grounded on B's 29.


7. PLAY: Second and 8 on B's 18. A88 leaps for a pass near B's goal line and his foot hits the goal line pylon. A88 receives the ball while airborne and the ball pops loose when A88 lands on his back in B's end zone. A85 catches the ball in B's end zone.
