2011 FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

QUIZ: WEEK #2

RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down, distance and succeeding spot (example: A 1/10 A40). If relevant, also include other information such as whether the 25 or 40-second play clock will be used, whether the game clock starts on the ready or snap or if there will be an extension of the period.

1. PLAY: Third and 8 on A's 32. A33 muffs the handoff from A12 and has to take several steps before recovering A12's fumble. A33 advances to B's 42 where he is downed. Nose guard, B96, commits a personal foul against the snapper upon his initial charge after the snap.

2. PLAY: Third and 5 on B's 35. B44 lines up directly in front of A88. At the snap, A88 slants to the inside of B44. Just after A12's catchable legal forward pass is airborne, B44 blocks A88 below the waist on B's 33. The untouched pass lands incomplete beyond the neutral zone.

3. PLAY: Try on B's 3. B44 intercepts A14's legal forward pass and advances across A's goal line. During B44's advance, A64 commits a blocking below the waist foul and A14 throws his helmet to the ground when he sees B44 advancing.

4. PLAY: Third and five on A's 40. A12 drops back to pass. Under a heavy rush, A12 is off balance facing A's goal line while being spun around by a defender. From A's 32, A12 throws the ball toward the neutral zone (a) over his shoulder; or (b) underhanded. The ball lands within three yards of back A83 who is pass protection blocking in front of A12 and is not aware that a pass has been thrown.

5. PLAY: Fourth and goal on B’s 16. A16 attempts to hand off to A33 who muffs the ball on B’s 18. A16 recovers on B’s 22 and runs to B’s 8 where he fumbles. A33 recovers on B’s 10 and advances across B’s goal line. The game clock shows 0:31. Immediately after the snap, B96 pulled snapper A52 down by the face mask on B’s 17. Clock?

6. PLAY: Second and 8 on B's 18. After the ready, all Team A players have been set for a second. Subsequently, A64 starts to slowly drop into a three point stance and is still moving when the ball is snapped. B44 intercepts A18's legal forward pass and advances for a touchdown.

7. PLAY: Third and 9 on B’s 29. A5’s field goal attempts lands in B’s end zone untouched by a Team B player after the kick crosses the neutral zone. B56, upset about a previous play, badmouths the umpire on B’s 24 while the kick is airborne.
