2010 FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

QUIZ: WEEK #5

RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down, distance and succeeding spot (example: A 1/10 A40). If relevant, also include other information such as whether the 25 or 40-second play clock will be used, whether the game clock starts on the ready or snap or if there will be an extension of the period.

1. PLAY: Second and 3 on B's 9. The score is A14-B20. Team A has no timeouts remaining. A83 catches A17's legal forward pass and is downed on B's 4. The umpire spots the ball and backs away. Team A, legally set for one second, snaps the ball before the referee starts the clock following the first down. The clock reads 0:02 at the snap. A86 catches A17's legal forward pass in B's end zone as time expires in the second half.

2. PLAY: Second and 10 on A's 40. The snapper adjusts the ball. Team A is in a scrimmage kick formation. A88 is an exception to the mandatory numbering. A89, on the end of the line, moves into the backfield leaving A88 on the end of the line. A89 then legally moves back to the line and covers A88 prior to the snap. A4's punt rolls out of bounds on B's 6.

3. PLAY: Free kick on A's 30. B92 is in position to recover A4's free kick on A's 37 when he is blocked above the waist by A87. The ball hits B92's helmet and is recovered by A82 on A's 38.

4. PLAY: Try on B's 3. A4's kick is blocked. After the ball is muffed by a few players, B44 recovers the ball and advances across A's goal line. While the ball was loose, A66 commits a flagrant personal foul.

5. PLAY: Fourth and 9 on B's 29. Team A is lined up to attempt a field goal. The snap bounces to holder A3 who has to rise up to grab the ball and immediately returns to a kneeling position. A3, from his kneeling position, tosses a shovel pass to A84 at B's 32. A84 is downed on B's 16. The kicker was still in position to kick the ball when A3 was rising, kneeling and passing.

6. PLAY: First and 10 on A's 35. Play resumes after a team timeout. Team A rushes quickly to the line of scrimmage. Team B makes no substitutions. Just after the Umpire backs off the ball and just prior to the Referee giving the ready for play signal, the snapper snaps the ball.

7. PLAY: Fourth and 8 on B's 48. Team A is in a scrimmage kick formation. A5 catches the snap, fakes a punt, runs a sweep and is downed on A's 47. B56 blocks A88 below the waist on B's 45 as A88 comes fast off the line at the snap. Clock?
