QUIZ: WEEK #4

RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down, distance and succeeding spot (example: A 1/10 A40). If relevant, also include other information such as whether the 25 or 40-second play clock will be used, whether the game clock starts on the ready or snap or if there will be an extension of the period.

1. PLAY: Third and 18 on B's 48. The score is A19-B21 with the game clock showing 0:58 in the second quarter. A15's legal forward pass to A83 is low and ruled incomplete on B's 22 bringing up A 4/18 B48. Team A takes their third timeout in the half. Just prior to the snap and after discussions with assistant coaches in the booth, Team A's head coach requests a challenge of the incomplete pass ruling. The incomplete pass ruling is reversed to a completed pass after replay receives another camera view. Game clock?


2. PLAY: First and 10 from B's 15. The score is A21-B24. B44 intercepts A16's legal forward pass in B's end zone and subsequently fumbles before returning to the field of play. B66 recovers while grounded on B's 4. Team A commits an illegal motion foul and B55 commits a block in the back foul in B's end zone during B44's advance. The game clock shows 0:24 in the fourth quarter.


3. PLAY: Third and 7 on B's 37. Ball carrier A87 stumbles and, with his hands on side of the ball, holds the ball against the ground on B's 42 to try to regain his balance. A87 then takes a step and holds the ball with the back of the hand on the ground underneath the ball on B's 39. A87 regains his balance and advances to B's 32 where he is downed.


4. PLAY: Fourth and 17 on B's 43. A5's punt bounces untouched on B's 3 and breaks the plane of B's goal line where A85 bats the ball back into the field of play. B44 muffs the ball on B's 2 and A68 recovers on B's 5. The ball did not touch the ground in B's end zone. During the kick, B55 committed a holding foul on B's 26.


5. PLAY: Third and 8 on A's 42. After a legal shift, back A29 goes in motion from left to right and is running in place behind the right tackle when the ball is snapped. QB A17 rolls out to the right and throws a legal forward pass to A82 who advances to B's 47 where he is downed. During A17's run, A29 blocks linebacker B54 on A's 38 below the waist and toward the perpendicular line running the length of the field through the ball at the snap.


6. PLAY: A 2/9 B19. A84 grabs A16's legal forward pass while airborne in B's end zone. A84 lands on a defender who is lying on the ground inbounds. The receiver falls backward and his first contact with the ground is out of bounds.


7. PLAY: Fourth and 10 on A's 30. B44 catches A4's punt on B's 40, cuts toward the sideline and advances across Team A's goal line. Officials signal touchdown but have a flag down for B66's block in the back foul on A's 32. Replay shows that B44 stepped out of bounds on A's 35. Reviewable? If so, assume that the foul occurred after B44 stepped out of bounds.
