2010 FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

QUIZ: WEEK #2


RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down, distance and succeeding spot (example: A 1/10 A40). If relevant, also include other information such as whether the 25 or 40-second play clock will be used, whether the game clock starts on the ready or snap or if there will be an extension of the period.

1. PLAY: Fourth and 6 on B's 46. A6 punts. B44 gives an invalid fair catch signal on B's 8. B44 muffs the airborne ball on B's 8, catches the ball on B's 6 and is tackled immediately by A84. During the down, B66 blocked A74 low on B's 12. A84 does not commit an interference with opportunity foul.


2. PLAY: Third and 4 on B's 24. The score is A21-B21 with 0:14 remaining in the fourth quarter. A32 is downed inbounds on B's 19. In a hurry-up offense and after the ready, all offensive players get set except A78 who is moving from a two-point stance to a three-point stance when the ball is snapped with 0:07 on the game clock. B66 intercepts A16's legal forward pass and advances across Team A's goal line as time expires in the fourth quarter.


3. PLAY: Second and 6 on B's 26. The score is A21-B28. The game clock shows 0:27 in the fourth quarter. A16 is hit on the side of the helmet by B98's forearm, a flagrant foul. A16 starts to throw a forward pass and, as A16 starts to tuck the ball, the ball falls out of A16's hand. The referee rules a fumble. B57 recovers on B's 38 and advances across Team A's goal line. Clock? Reviewable?


4. PLAY: Fourth and 2 on B's 5. The score is A24-B24. A33 fumbles on B's 2 and the ball rolls into B's end zone where A85 recovers the ball. B96 was offside at the snap. A85 isolates himself from his teammates, goes to one knee and gives the ball a spin. Twenty seconds remain in the second half. Clock?


5. PLAY: Second and 6 on A's 24. A14 scrambles to A's 26 where he throws a pass to A88. B55 pushes A88 out of the way at A's 40, intercepts the ball, and runs to A's 4 where he fumbles. The ball rolls into A's end zone where B66 recovers.


6. PLAY: Fourth and 6 on B's 46. A3 punts. A87 illegally touches the kick on B's 3. B44 recovers on B's 4, advances to B's 16 and fumbles. A67 recovers and advances to B's 14 where he is downed. A56 commits a personal foul on B's 24 during the punt.


7. PLAY: Free kick on A's 30. B44 muffs the ball on B's 4 and the ball rolls into B's end zone. B44 accidentally kicks the ball as he reached for it. The ball rolls to B's 2 and is over the field of play when A88 picks up the ball with one foot inbounds and one foot touching the sideline.
