2016 MINI MISSIVE #3

RULE 9-1-6-a: BLOCKING BELOW THE WAIST - TEAM A

Unless so stated or implied, assume that (a) the ball carrier has not advanced beyond the neutral zone; and (b) the block is not toward Team A's end line. The tight end is considered in the tackle box only when he is the first or second player outside the snapper and is in the tackle box. The Pigskin Page defines the line running parallel to the sideline and through the orginal position of the ball at the snap as the "snap-line".

RULING

1
Tackle A77 moves to his side and blocks B95 low and from the side in the tackle box. A77 has not left the tackle box. The ball had not left the tackle box.
Legal block. The blocker is in the tackle box, the block is in the tackle box and the ball has not left the tackle box.
2
Tackle A77 moves to his side and blocks B95 low and from the side in the tackle box. The ball had left the tackle box.
Illegal block. The ball has left the tackle box so a 10-2 clock-face block is required.
3
Tackle A77 moves forward and blocks B56 low and from the side. The ball had not left the tackle box .
Illegal block. Though not clear from 9-1-6-a-2, A.R. 9-1-6-VII states that once an unrestricted blocker "leaves the tackle box before making the block, he is restricted from blocking other than with a 10-2 block".
4
Tackle A77 moves forward and blocks B56 low and within the 10-2 clock-face. The ball had left the tackle box.
Legal block. A77 is considered unrestricted at the snap so this block is legal before and after the ball leaves the tackle box.
5
Guard A66 pulls and leaves the tackle box. Before the ball carrier crosses the neutral zone, A66 blocks B44 low within the 10-2 clock-face toward the snap line.
Illegal block. This block is now also illegal for players in the tackle box at the snap.
6
Wideout or tight end A88 blocks B44 low parallel to or away from the "snap-line" and within the 10-2 clock-face. The ball had not left the tackle box.
Legal block. Restricted players may always block low within the 10-2 clock-face if the block is parallel to or away from the snap line.
7
Wideout or tight end A88 blocks B44 low parallel to or away from the "snap-line" and within the 10-2 clock-face. The ball had left the tackle box but the ball carrier had not crossed the neutral zone.
Legal block. Restricted players may always block low within the 10-2 clock-face if the block is parallel to or away from the snap line.
8
Wideout or tight end A88 blocks B44 low and within the 10-2 clock-face. The ball carrier had crossed the neutral zone.
Legal block. All players, restricted and unrestricted, may execute these blocks (10-2) anywhere after the ball carrier has crossed the neutral zone.
9
Back A33, lined up in the tackle box, blocks B56 low and from the side within the tackle box. The ball had not left the tackle box.
Legal block. The block is illegal if A33 was in the tackle box but in motion at the snap.
10
Tight end A88, third lineman outside the snapper, blocks B96 low and from the side within the tackle box. The ball had not left the tackle box when the block occurred.
Illegal block. A88 was not considered in the tackle box when the ball was snapped and therefore is restricted.
