2015 MINI MISSIVE #2

UNSUCCESSFUL FIELD GOAL ATTEMPTS (8-4-2-b)

RULE 8-4-2-b-1: If the ball untouched by Team B beyond the neutral zone is declared dead beyond the neutral zone, it belongs to Team B. Except in an extra period, Team B will snap the ball at the previous spot unless the previous spot was between its 20-yard line and its goal line. In that case, Team B will next snap the ball at its 20-yard line. ....... NOTE: Perhaps the rule should state, "untouched by a Team B player after the ball crosses the neutral zone" to be consistent with 6-3-3.

RULING

1
4th/goal B11. A4's field goal attempt strikes the ground beyond the neutral zone and rolls to B's 8 where it goes out of bounds or is recovered by a Team A player.
B 1/10 B20. In both cases, the ball became dead beyond the neutral zone after being untouched by Team B beyond the neutral zone. If previous spot B's 27, B 1/10 B27.
2
4th/goal B11. A4's field goal attempt strikes the ground beyond the neutral zone and rebounds to B's 18 where it goes out of bounds or is recovered by a Team A player.
B 1/10 B18. In both cases, the ball became dead behind the neutral zone after being untouched by Team B beyond the neutral zone. If declared dead at B's 22, not B's 18, B 1/10 B22.
3
4th/goal B11. A4's field goal attempt strikes the ground beyond the neutral zone and rolls to B's 8 where it is recovered by a Team B player while grounded.
B 1/10 B8. The ball became dead beyond the neutral zone after being touched by Team B beyond the neutral zone.
4
4th/goal B11. A4's field goal attempt strikes the ground beyond the neutral zone and bounces back behind the neutral zone. B96 muffs the ball on B's 13 and the ball rolls out of bounds on B's 9.
B 1/10 B20. The ball became dead beyond the neutral zone after being untouched by Team B beyond the neutral zone. The rule does not state "after the kick crosses the neutral zone".
5
4th/goal B11. A4's field goal attempt strikes the ground beyond the neutral zone and bounces back behind the neutral zone. B96 muffs the ball on B's 13 and the ball rolls out of bounds on B's 15.
B 1/10 B15. The ball became dead behind the neutral zone after being untouched by Team B beyond the neutral zone. This spot where B96 touches the ball is not relevant in this play.
6
4th/goal B11. A4's field goal attempt strikes the ground beyond the neutral zone and bounces back behind the neutral zone. A42 muffs the ball on B's 13 and B44 recovered the ball on B's 9.
B 1/10 B13. The ball is touched by Team B beyond the neutral zone and is declared dead beyond the neutral zone. Team B will take the ball at the spot of illegal touching, B's 13.
7
4th/goal B11. A4's field goal attempt strikes the ground beyond the neutral zone and bounces back behind the neutral zone. A42 muffs the ball on B's 14, B44 muffs the ball on B's 12 and A88 recovers the ball on B's 9.
B 1/10 B14. The ball belongs to Team A. Team B will elect to take the ball at the spot of illegal touching, B's 14. NOTE: By the wording of the rule, it would be B 1/10 B20.
8
4th/goal B11. A4's field goal attempt strikes the ground beyond the neutral zone and bounces back across the neutral zone. B96 muffs the ball on B's 13 and A4 recovers on B's 9.
A 1/goal B9. The ball became dead when legally recovered by A4. By the wording of the rule, it would be B 1/10 B20. B96 touched the ball behind the neutral zone. However, Rule 6-3-3 likely trumps Rule 8-4-2-b.
