2012 MINI MISSIVE #6

Free Kicks - 6-1-2-b

After the ready for play, all players of the kicking team except the kicker must be no more than five yards behind their restraining line (usually A's 35). A player satisfies this rule when at least part of one foot is on or beyond the line five yards behind the restraining line. NOTE: For all plays below, assume that the referee has given the ready for play.

RULING

1
f/k A's 35. Nine Team A players have one or both feet on or beyond A's 30. A86 is in a 3-point stance with both feet behind A's 30 and one hand on the ground between A's 30 and A's 35. A8 kicks the ball. B44 recovers while grounded on B's 8.
A f/k A30. Illegal formation. A86 would satisfy the rule when any part of one foot is between A's 30 and A's 35. The penalty could, but will not, be enforced from B's 8 making it B 1/10 B13.
2
f/k A's 35. As A8 moves forward from A's 27, A88 moves laterally and kicks the ball. B98 recovers while grounded on A's 47.
B 1/10 A42. Illegal formation. A8 fouls when he does not kick the ball. The 5-yard penalty is enforced from the spot where the subsequent dead ball belongs to Team B, A's 47. The penalty could, but will not, be enforced from the previous spot, A's 35.
3
f/k A's 35. A87 realizes that he is on the wrong side of the kicker and runs to the other side by crossing A's 30 towards his goal line and then turns and starts running towards the opponent’s goal line. He is on A's 32 when the ball is kicked. A55 muffs the ball on A's 42 and recovers the ball on A's 44.
B 1/10 A39. Illegal formation. The 5-yard penalty will be enforced from the spot of the illegal recovery, A's 44. The penalty could, but will not, be enforced from the previous spot, A's 35. Team B also could, but will not, take the ball on A's 42.
4
f/k A's 35. All Team A players, except A8, have one or both feet on or beyond A's 30. A8's kick is muffed by B44 on B's 4 and rolls into the goal line pylon.
Touchback. B 1/10 B25. If free kick becomes dead in B's end zone and the free kick is the impetus, Team B will put the ball in play on B's 25 (new 6-1-7-b). This new rule does not apply to a punt during a scrimmage down.
5
f/k A's 20. After a safety, Team A elects to punt the ball. The booming wind-aided punt is muffed by B44 on B's 12 and bounces into and out of B's end zone.
Touchback. B 1/10 B25. The rule also applies to a free kick after a safety which may be a place kick, drop kick or a punt. (6-1-7-b)
6
f/k A35. B44 returns A8's free kick to A's 6 where he fumbles. A66 recovers while grounded in A's end zone.
Touchback. A 1/10 A20.. The ball is placed on the 25 only when the touchback is the result of a free kick.
(6-1-7-b)
7
f/k A's 35. A8 attempts an onside kick by kicking the ball off the tee directly into the ground and the ball bounces high. B44 moves forward and muffs the ball on B's 48 when A84 is within a yard and in front of B44. A84 recovers while grounded on A's 46.
B 1/10 A37. Interference with opportunity to "catch/recover" a free kick. B44 is given the same opportunity to "catch/recover" as if the ball had not hit the ground. NOTE: By rule, a kick that has hit the ground can only be recovered but live with it!
(new 6-4-1-a,e)
8
f/k A's 50. Substitute A86 replaces A84 after the ready. A86 enters the field on A's 40 and trots directly to A's 46. A8's kick goes over B's end line.
B 1/10 B25. No foul. The intent of the rule is to limit the running start before the kick and reasonable accommodation must be made for the substitution process.
